It documents the effects of the FP program on Egypt’s demographic transition through a review of the country’s major demographic indicators. To estimate the benefits realized, a scenario of a less successful FP program was created and compared with the cumulative public sector savings achieved as a result of Egypt’s actual FP program for the period of 1980–2005. The health benefits for children and mothers were also analyzed.
